Warm-Up 3

Warm-Up 3 is all about turning informal, spoken language into formal, written language. The prompt is the kind of thing a health-and-safety officer might say when she's on a site visit, but the written version of her recommendations will use different grammatical structures and different words … because it's written and formal, not spoken and informal.

Remember that you've only got FIVE sentences to produce - you don't need to write the entire report.

The podcast relating to this task and Send-In 3 will be published in a minute too.

  1. Approved work shoes with steel toe caps must be used on a construction site in order to comply with Swedish law.

All contractors and other personnel who are working or visiting the construction site must wear a hardhat.

When working higher than ground level, safety nets and safety barriers must be in place in order to comply with the Swedish Labor Securities law.

A total of three of diggers and dump trucks which are used at the construction site have expired certificates and therefore, in accordance with Swedish law, are prohibited for use on the construction site until they have been tested and received renewed certificates.

The construction site will be shut down due to lack of Swedish Labor Security law compliance unless action is taken to correct the inspection findings published in this report.

It is the responsibility of the employer to ensure that hearing protection and breathing masks are available for the employeers if noise and/or dust levels are above EU standards.

The construction site must be fenced and furnished with safety barriers to prevent construction accidents and third party access.

If the above listed requirements are not complied with by the latest November 3, we will have no other option than closing down the construction site.

In accordance with Swedish Transport Regulations, vehicles lacking a valid certificate are imposed by a driving bad with immediate force.

  4. Firstly for security reasons a recommendation is that all workers wear proper work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps.

Secondly you must have everybody on the site wearing approved safety helmets at all times.

Subsequently I would highly recommend you to have all workers wearing helmets with built-in ear muffs so that none of them will be exposed to the noise.

In order to avoid accidents there must be fences and safety barriers at a proper height at all places where you build above ground level.

At least four of your plants have expired test certificates and therefore the last recommendation is that you have all your plants tested and checked by authorized mechanic immediately.

The Swedish safety and health Executive inspected the construction area. Following is a report from their visit.
Because the workers are carrying heavy materials they need to wear proper boots with reinforced soles and toecaps. We are not allowed to let anyone in to the construction area without wearing a safety helmet. They considered the noise level being normal but the workers have to wear ear protectors. They suggested us to use a safety helmet with built-in ear protectors and mesh to protect the face.
In Sweden there is regulations that forces us to use safety barriers when working above ground level in order to prevent workers from falling.

    4. Equipment and machinery lacking valid test certificate should be tested immediately before put back into operation.

    5. Similarly, equipment and machinery that is malfunctioning should be repaired by an authorised mechanic immediately before further use.

I am not informed how the legal system works in China, but in Sweden we have laws and regulations regarding health and safety at workplaces that we strictly need to follow, and the current situation must therefore be improved.

It is not appropriate to work in only sneakers on a construction site due to high risk of injury, so boots with reinforced soles and toecaps is mandatory while visiting or working on the site.

Along with the boots, an approved safety helmet is also compulsory for everyone on the site.

Due to the noise level it is recommended for everyone to wear ear protections, for instance built into the helmet, accompanied by a cover for the face.

To avoid falling accidents, safety barriers and fences are required by law, as soon as you start building above ground level.

I Sweden we have strict regulations regarding construction sites due to safety issues. Therefore it is really important to follow these rules.
Everyone on the construction site must be equipped with safety gear. This includes proper work boots, with reinforced soles and toecaps.
At the site it is also mandatory that everyone wear an approved safety helmet or a hardhat.
Due to the noise level it is recommended that you wear ear protectors, preferable a helmet with built-in ear-covers and a mesh for protecting the face.
To minimize the risk for constructors it is really important that there are fences and safety barriers of the proper height when building above ground level.

Ensure that construction workers put on proper work boots with good traction and protection in order to avoid punctures, lacerations or broken bones.

Second, it is imperative that workers are provided with safety helmets to provide protection for their heads in order to avoid head injuries at work.

Third, effort should be made to keep all walking surfaces free of spills, water, oil and any other substances that are hazardous and can result in accidents on the construction site.

Fourth, safety ear plugs should be worn by construction workers to prevent noise emanating from machines from damaging the ear drums.

Finally, fences and safety barriers should be erected around the construction site in order to protect pedestrians.

During an inspection of the construction site, it came to our knowledge that the Swedish legislation on health and safety is not completely met by us. Recommendations about how to manage these issues has been given and we hope to make arrangements as quickly as possible, to avoid further implications. Firstly, the workers are obliged to wear safety helmets on site, preferably with built-in ear protection, as well as adequate boots with reinforced sole and toecap. Then, it is of utmost importance that there are fences and safety barriers of sufficient height, whenever building above ground level, to minimise the risk of accidents and injuries on site. Finally, machinery must be tested for new certifications and repaired by an authorised mechanic before brought back into service.

  52. According to Swedish safety regulations it is compulsory for everyone entering a construction site to wear an approved safety helmet.

All construction workers on site are required to wear boots with reinforced soles and toecaps.

Fences and safety barriers of proper height shall be used at all construction locations above ground level,

Do to the high noise levels; a request for ear protection has been made from the authorities.

All vehicles used at the construction site require valid test certificates to be able to use them and regular check-ups by an authorized mechanic are also strongly recommended.
